The Guardian have claimed that West Ham United striker Albian Ajeti will join Celtic in a permanent £4.5million move, after the Swiss forward decided to turn down the chance to join Championship side Brentford.
Ajeti, 23, joined West Ham just last summer from FC Basel after the Switzerland international scored an impressive 43 goals in 96 appearances for the Swiss giants. He also laid on 21 assists during his time at Basel.
However, he flopped at West Ham. Just 12 appearances and no goals have seen West Ham seemingly decide to cash in, and it appears that Celtic are going to sign him permanently – despite initial loan reports.
A £4.5million permanent move is now expected and the report states Ajeti “will join”, despite Brentford trying to keep him in London – by adding him to their push for Premier League promotion. But Ajeti turned them down.
TBR’s view – Ajeti will score goals at Celtic, but was it right move?
Brentford are one of the most exciting sides in the Championship – with Ollie Watkins proving to be an excellent attacking spearhead, scoring 26 goals last term. Watkins is expected to leave this summer.
The Bees need a striker and Ajeti would have been a good addition for the Bees. It would have seen him stay in London, and perhaps lead a side back into the Premier League. Now, he is likely to warm the bench at Celtic.
