Report: Ainsley Maitland-Niles could leave Arsenal after Arteta fallout

Arsenal could be willing to sell Ainsley Maitland-Niles this summer as Mikel Arteta faces a frantic fight to raise transfer funds for the summer window.

According to a report from the Daily Star, Maitland-Niles is among the players being considered for sale. Despite making over 90 appearances for the Gunners, the 22-year-old has fallen down the pecking order under Arteta.

Predominantly used as a right wing-back during his time with the club, Maitland-Niles has been with the Gunners since being a boy.

However, with the global situation affecting clubs around the world, Arsenal may need to sell before they can strengthen.

And, given Niles’ lack of game time under Arteta, he stands out as a perfect candidate to be on the chopping block.

Arsenal are being linked with a number of players ahead of the summer. The likes of Adrien Rabiot, Gabriel, and Odsonne Edouard are all thought to be of interest to the Gunners.

Selling Maitland-Niles might, at the very least, help them capture one of their summer targets.

In fairness to everyone involved here, this deal might work out for the best for all.

Maitland-Niles is at the stage in his career where regular football is needed. Arsenal, on the other hand, needs cash in order to back Mikel Arteta.

A number of PL clubs will likely be interested in the versatile midfielder. The 22-year-old can certainly do a job.

Indeed, former Gunner Jeremie Aliadiere once branded Maitland-Niles as ‘priceless’ thanks to his ability to play in a number of positions.
