Report: AC Milan to challenge Spurs for Mike Maignan signing
According to reports from Italy, AC Milan may scupper Spurs’ chances of signing potential Hugo Lloris replacement, Mike Maignan.
Gazzetta Italia make the claim, suggesting that Milan could move for Maignan even if they manage to keep Gianluigi Donnarumma tied down to fresh terms.
L’Equipe have claimed that Spurs are interested in Maignan, who currently plays his football with Lille in France. Maignan, 25, is said to be on a list of potential Lloris replacement for Jose Mourinho. It is believed Lille value him around the £21.5m mark.
However, Milan’s interest may threaten any Spurs hopes of a deal. It appears the Italian giants want to ensure their goalkeeper ranks are firmly bolstered, even if Donnarumma stays in place.
Maignan, though, may well want to play first-team football. That, of course, could play into Spurs’ hands if they do indeed decide to move on from the days of Lloris.
TBR View: Surely Maignan won’t go to sit as a number two?
And that should be the biggest advantage Spurs have in any potential deal for Maignan. The Frenchman surely won’t leave Lille to simply go and sit on the bench in Serie A.
Spurs, then, need to ensure they’re on the button with this one and get a deal sorted early, if they’re interested still.
Maignan looks a very assured goalkeeper already and at 25, is the right age to do well and develop further. Even though he’s rated at over £20m, that isn’t a huge sum in today’s game, especially if Spurs get longevity and quality out of the stopper.
