Report: AC Milan to bid for Rodrigo De Paul; Liverpool made approach in March
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, AC Milan are set to make their move for reported Liverpool target and Udinese midfielder, Rodrigo De Paul.
De Paul is said to be a target for the Reds should Gini Wijnaldum – as we expect – leave the club this summer on a free. Tutto Udinese claimed just back in March that the Reds had made an approach for De Paul, thought to be around £26m.
But it now seems Liverpool will need to act fast if they still wish to pursue De Paul’s signature. Milan are said to be weighing up a move for the Argentinian star, and could well pay the £35m asking price Udinese have set.
The combative midfielder has become one of the stars of the European game in recent seasons. Leeds were heavily linked with him last summer, but De Paul remained in Italy and has gone from strength to strength.
Liverpool are expected to be busy in the market this summer. New defenders are a priority but Jurgen Klopp will need someone in for Wijnaldum it seems, which is why De Paul is ideal.
TBR View: De Paul a class act who Liverpool should go all out for
In terms of midfielders who fit the profile for a Jurgen Klopp team, then De Paul is certainly right up there in terms of attributes.
He is good with the ball but also prepared to put in the hard yards, while he’s also not afraid of getting his foot in where it hurts.
Liverpool will need someone of high quality when Wijnaldum does go. And while £35m is a decent chunk of change, De Paul would be more than worth it to freshen up the Reds midfield.
