According to The Northern Echo, AC Milan are very keen on Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar. AC Milan are reportedly lining up a bid for Schar as they aim to bolster their defence.
After missing out on Dejan Lovren, who was priced too highly by Liverpool, Marco Giampaolo has turned his attention to Schar. AC Milan could firm up their interest with a concrete bid.
Schar only joined from Deportivo La Coruna last summer for £3m (Northern Echo). But after an eye-catching first season in England, he is already being linked with an exit.
The Switzerland international played 24 times in the league last season, shoring things up at the back under Rafa Benitez. He also grabbed the headlines with some impressive goals.
AC Milan hope to lure Schar with the prospect of playing at the San Siro and competing for silverware in Italy. AC Milan are also in the Europa League, which could be an attractive prospect.
Fabian Schar departure would be concerning
Rafa Benitez started the Newcastle exodus after Mike Ashley failed to match his ambition. Ayoze Perez has since departed and Salomon Rondon does not look like he will return.
Sean Longstaff has been linked with Manchester United (Sky Sports News) in a £30m deal. And Schar could join the evergrowing list of players leaving Newcastle this season.
If he does depart, that will be a major loss for Newcastle. The 27-year-old was one of the most consistent performers for the Magpies and his absence will be felt.
