Italian outlet CalcioMercato have claimed that AC Milan are keeping tabs on Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka ahead of the January transfer window, with the midfielder likely to leave the club in the near future.
Xhaka, 27, has been stripped of the Arsenal captaincy after reacting to jeers from the Gunners fans when being substituted drawing a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace. The midfielder has since apologised to fans via a statement on social media.
But Unai Emery has chosen not to pick Xhaka for the games against Wolves last weekend, or the Europa League clash on Wednesday night in Vitoria. It remains to be seen if the midfielder will play against Leicester City on Saturday.
Milan are keeping tabs on the situation, with the Serie A giants looking to sign a central midfielder in January. It is not believed Arsenal will bring in the £35million they spent on the ex-Gladbach midfielder – and may have to accept a cut-price offer.
TBR’s view – Surely, Xhaka would jump at the chance to join Milan?
Milan are one of Europe’s biggest clubs with excellent facilities, stadia, players and fanbase. With Xhaka unlikely to ever win the trust back from the Arsenal support, the chances are that he is going to leave at the earliest opportunity.
If he is to leave Arsenal, then, a chance to join Milan and help one of Italy’s biggest sides realise their potential once again will be an opportunity the £100,000-a-week midfielder (Spotrac) can hardly refuse. They currently sit in 11th place in Serie A.
