The Daily Record have claimed that Aberdeen are set to complete a short-term loan move for Leeds United teenager Ryan Edmondson ahead of Saturday’s opener against Rangers at Pittodrie.
Aberdeen are desperately looking to bring in a striker in the coming days after Derek McInnes confirmed as much in his pre-Rangers press conference. Sam Cosgrove and Curtis Main are both expected to miss out through injury.
It appears 19-year-old Edmondson has been targeted, as he remains frustrated at Elland Road with little chance of building on his two substitute appearances back in 2018. Since Marcelo Bielsa came in, he has not had a sniff.
A target man but with plenty of pace and solid in possession, Edmondson is a three-time England Under-20 international and with the Whites promoted – he is expected to be allowed to leave Elland Road on loan.
TBR’s view – Aberdeen an excellent chance for Edmondson
Top-tier football, Europa League qualification stages at the end of August and the chance to play against Rangers and Celtic will not only see Edmondson gain regular football – but also an opportunity to make a real name for himself.
His career at Leeds looks likely to be over given Bielsa’s lack of involvement. But he is the ideal fit for Aberdeen too, given he is a big physical presence such as Cosgrove or Main. It is an ideal move – but also an excellent one.
