The Daily Record have claimed that Aberdeen are set to complete the signing of Rangers ace Ross McCrorie, despite previous interest from Hibernian – with Derek McInnes’ initially signing him on loan.
McCrorie, 22, has struggled for game time under Steven Gerrard and even went on loan to English club Portsmouth last season – where he impressed in numerous positions. He clocked up 23 appearances for Pompey.
He has returned to Ibrox but is well down the pecking order and despite being seen as a future Scotland international, Gerrard has decided to get rid. Hibernian were strongly linked with a move last week.
But it appears Aberdeen have won the race for McCrorie, initially signing him on loan before a move is completed next summer. It is believed McCrorie will have a medical at Aberdeen on Monday morning.
TBR’S View – McCrorie is a stunning addition for Aberdeen
But a strange one for Rangers to allow one of their closest rivals sign their player. McCrorie has been excellent when given the chance by the Gers, clocking up 55 appearances at centre-back, right-back or in midfield.
A move to Hibernian would have made sense for McCrorie but for Rangers to allow him to join Aberdeen is a strange one. For Aberdeen, meanwhile, McCrorie is a stunning signing and a much-needed one given their current crisis.
