Report: Aaron Hickey one step away from joining Arsenal with fee agreed

Aaron Hickey is one step away from joining Arsenal, with Calciomercato reporting that Mikel Arteta’s men have agreed to pay around £20.4 million plus add-ons for the left-back.

Hickey’s potential move to the Emirates has gathered pace in recent weeks. Reports at the weekend claimed that Arsenal had met with Bologna in the last few days to discuss a fee.

An agreement was reached on that front. And it seems that further progress has now been made. According to Calciomercato, Arsenal have now won the race to sign the 19-year-old ahead of several Italian sides.

In fact, a deal is now one step away with the Gunners set to pay £20.4 million for Hickey this summer.

The amount of noise from Italy would certainly suggest that Arsenal are indeed well on their way towards signing Hickey. And it will be a real boost to get a deal done.

The teenager has taken his game to the next level since swapping Hearts for Bologna. Steven Naismith labelled his development in Italy ‘amazing‘. And it was already clear what kind of talent he possessed when he featured in a Scottish Cup final as a 16-year-old.

Arsenal have one of the best left-backs in the Premier League in Kieran Tierney. Unfortunately however, relying on him to stay fit has proved problematic.

Nuno Tavares has been bright at times since he came in. But it does look to be too soon for the Portuguese to be a regular starter at the Emirates.

So signing Hickey could prove to be an absolutely inspired piece of business. And it seems that Arsenal are closing right in on a deal, with a move now reportedly just one step away and a fee agreed.
