Report: £90k-a-week Man City ace Pep called 'extraordinary' wanted by title-winning club
Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy is reportedly a target for Serie A champions Inter Milan this summer.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the 26-year-old defender is a potential left-back signing for the Italian giants. Manchester United’s Alex Telles and Liverpool’s Kostas Tsimikas are also options Inter are eyeing in the transfer window.
Mendy failed to nail down a starting XI spot for City last season. The defender made just 17 starts in all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s side. The Frenchman was an unused substitute in the UEFA Champions League final.
As reported by Goal, the £90,000-a-week ace is likely to stay with City this summer despite a lack of regular football with the Manchester giants.
However, with the defender playing a bit-part role for the Premier League champions last season, there could be a chance that Mendy pushes for a move to play more first-team football.
Guardiola is a fan of Mendy, though. In an interview with City’s official website, the former Bayern Munich head coach labelled the defender as ‘extraordinary’.
The City boss said: “He has incredible physicality when he is fit when his mind is in the right position. He’s in an extraordinary player.”
Indeed, Mendy’s future with City seems up in the air this summer. Whilst the defender has shown flashes of brilliance, his injury record and inconsistent performances raise some valid question marks.
With Oleksandr Zinchenko the number one left-back for City, it could be time for Mendy to consider his City future following another year of irregular playing time.
