Report: £4m-rated Premier League enforcer may be offered to Newcastle

Newcastle United could reportedly be offered midfield enforcer Mario Lemina by Premier League rivals Southampton.

According to the Daily Mail, Southampton may try use their 27-year-old Lemina in a part-exchange deal to sign Newcastle midfielder Isaac Hayden.

It is understood that the Saints are in talks with Newcastle over a deal for Hayden that could end up seeing Lemina move in the opposite direction.

The report explains the Magpies want around £12million for their 26-year-old Hayden. Meanwhile, Southampton value Lemina at £4million.

It’s worth adding that Le10 Sport claim French club Nice have submitted a £3.4million bid for Lemina.

The Daily Mail previously reported in June that Newcastle owner Mike Ashley had reservations about paying up £4million for Lemina. However, it’ll be interesting to see if that changes in a part-exchange offer.

Mario Lemina would be great for Newcastle

If you consider today’s market, £4million for Lemina looks superb business.

It wouldn’t be ideal losing Hayden, but Lemina would be a strong replacement at St James’ Park.

He caught the eye in the top flight during a loan at Fulham last season, who were eventually relegated.

However, the defensive midfielder has shown he’s got the aggression, physicality and quality on the ball to thrive in the Premier League.

Steve Bruce’s Newcastle need a few summer additions to realistically challenge for the top half of the league table in the new season.
