Report: 43-year-old immediately ready to take over at Newcastle, if Emery rejects £115k-a-week offer

The Northern Echo claim Eddie Howe is immediately ready to fill the Newcastle void – if Unai Emery rejects the £115k-a-week on the table.

Emery, 50, was firmly expected to join Newcastle in the coming hours after a report from The Mail’s Craig Hope. Zoom calls on Sunday were held.

But reports from Spain, and Guillem Balague, state that the ex-Arsenal manager is set to reject Newcastle. That is also reported by the Echo.

They state that a big-money £115k-a-week offer is on the table for Emery, but that is yet to be signed. A replacement is ready to come in.

That replacement is in the form of Howe, who the Echo report is “willing to step into the breach immediately” if a move for Emery does indeed fail.

Eddie Howe or Unai Emery: Newcastle are winners either way

The Toon will have either Howe or Emery in the dugout, potentially by Saturday. It is a good position to be in for the owners.

Yes, the owners would seemingly rather Emery – but Howe would still be a top addition. He has sparkled at Bournemouth, taking them from nothing.

Many remember his relegation and then removal as manager, but they forget that Howe took Bournemouth from the depths of the EFL, to PL.

If Newcastle do not get Emery, then bringing in Howe would be a stunning replacement for the Toon. Either way, it is a good move.
