Report: £40m maestro rejects new deal at PL club, Liverpool and Manchester City among clubs interested
90Min claim Youri Tielemans has decided to reject a new contract from Leicester City – with Liverpool and Manchester City among those keen.
Tielemans, 24, is one of the first names on the Leicester team sheet under Brendan Rodgers. He has already played 121 times, joining in January 2019.
In that time, he has had a hand in 41 goals – scoring 19 and creating 22. The Belgium international’s long-term future, though, is a doubt for Leicester.
He has entered the last 18 months of his current deal – and now 90Min report that he has turned down the offer of a new one.
The report also suggests Liverpool and Manchester City are among those interested in the Belgian, who cost £40million from Monaco in 2019.
Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich are also keen on Tielemans. The race is hotting up for his signature.
Tielemans rejects Leicester deal: Liverpool or Manchester City?
Liverpool really need a midfield signing. Gini Wijnaldum was not replaced, while Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott are still learning their trade.
James Milner is 35, and Naby Keita is simply not the standard required – Dietmar Hamann said this week that he is not Liverpool quality.
The Reds need a progressive midfielder – and Tielemans would be ideal. But Manchester City have the financial power to blow Liverpool away.
City could also do with another midfielder, though they are not as in need as Liverpool. It all depends on his asking price.
