Rangers attacker Cedric Itten, who remains on loan, has been training to adapt his game into a Harry Kane-like striker by dropping deep – according to Athletic reporter Jordan Campbell.
Itten, 24, struggled in his first season at Rangers. Joining the club for £3million from St. Gallen in the summer of 2020, Itten only scored six goals in 44 games – 34 of which were from the bench.
He was offloaded to German side Greuther Furth, where he has since scored twice in 11 games, in the Bundesliga. Furth lost their first 11 league games, but beat Union Berlin on the weekend.
Itten himself netted against Bayern Munich earlier in the season. Campbell, during a Q&A session on Athletic, was asked if the Switzerland international could return in January – with Gio van Bronckhorst now in charge.

Campbell responded by stating that he “was told” in the summer that Itten has been training to adapt his game. Dropping deeper, modeled on Tottenham and England star Kane, in order to offer something different.
“I was told in the summer, in the lead-up to Malmo he had to start because Morelos was suspended, that Itten had been working on dropping deep in a way like Harry Kane has carved out at Tottenham,” Campbell wrote.
Itten under van Bronckhorst: Could Rangers loanee get a chance at Ibrox?
In terms of attacking options and whether there is room for Itten to break in, Fashion Sakala will remain in January – as Zambia failed to qualify for thr African Cup of Nations.
Kemar Roofe is back from injury, Alfredo Morelos’ form has picked up under van Bronckhorst and Jermain Defoe has reverted to just being a player. There is no room for Itten, even if van Bronckhorst wanted him back.
