Report: £3m attacker wanted by Rangers and Celtic favours Scotland move, he's been compared to Zaha
Glasgow Rangers and Celtic are both reportedly eyeing exciting England-based attacker Siriki Dembele.
According to the Peterborough Telegraph, Dembele is interested in moving to Scotland to ply his trade.
The 24-year-old is reportedly on the radar of several sides in the English Championship.
However, Dembele apparently favours a move to Scotland over remaining in England.
The Peterborough star spent part of his childhood in Scotland and has a young family north of the border.
In addition, his brother Karamoko plays for Celtic, though the report doesn’t say he’d necessarily favour the Hoops over the Light Blues.
Rangers and Celtic after an “exciting talent”?
So far, Dembele has resisted attempts by Posh to extend his contract until beyond the end of next season.
Indeed, he handed in a transfer request in January for personal reasons and reiterated his desire to leave after helping them to promotion from League One.
However, Posh are adamant they will not sell Dembele on the cheap even though he could leave for nothing at the end of the 2021-22 season.
“I have spoken to Siriki and told him if he is still here when the transfer window closes we are prepared to talk about a new contract again,” director of football Barry Fry told the Peterborough Telegraph.
“Siriki is open to that idea so we will have to wait and see what happens. We want him to stay. He’s an exciting talent who we expect to thrive in the Championship.
“We certainly won’t let him go on the cheap for fear of losing him for nothing.”
Dembele cost Posh a reported £250,000 in 2018 and is now reportedly worth £3million.
He registered 12 goals and 12 assists in all competitions last season, and Peterborough owner Darragh MacAnthony has likened him to Wilfried Zaha.
