The Liverpool Echo have claimed that Everton have decided to release Switzerland international Shani Tarashaj after a two-year loan move with Dutch side FC Emmen ended prematurely, despite the player having a year left on his contract.
Tarashaj, 25, was halfway through a two-year loan spell at Emmen before the Dutch club confirmed on social media that his temporary stay at the club had been cut short. It saw the Swiss outcast return to Merseyside.
However, that return was short-lived, as Tarashaj has now been released by the Toffees – a year before his contract runs out at the end of the season in June. He leaves Goodison Park without making a single senior appearance.
Tarashaj joined Everton in January 2016 for £3million (Echo) before immediately returning to boyhood club Grasshoppers on loan for the rest of the 2015-16 season. He scored 12 goals in 35 games, and was loaned to Eintracht Frankfurt fior 2016-17.
But that was the start of the downfall. Just one goal in 15 saw him return to Grasshoppers on loan, before a move to Emmen which has failed to produce any senior appearances. Now, he is a free agent.

TBR’s view – Tarashaj was worth the £3m outlay
Indeed, at a young age he had scored plenty of goals in the Swiss Super League for Grasshoppers and had even broken into his national side’s first team with five caps. From an Everton point of view, £3million was somewhat of a coup.
But fast forward four years and Tarashaj’s career is in danger of falling by the wayside. He needs to join a side where he can play regular football and regain his confidence before it is too late.
