According to The Telegraph, Burnley could now hire Vincent Kompany to replace Sean Dyche, nearly three years on from the day he left Manchester City.
What’s the story?
Well, the 36-year-old left the Etihad Stadium in May 2019, after 11 years with the Citizens.
Now, the Belgian could make a return to the Premier League with Burnley – if they avoid relegation to the Championship, of course.
The Telegraph believe Alan Pace – Burnley’s chairman – has looked at a number of options, such as Wayne Rooney, Carlos Carvalhal and Chris Wilder.
Kompany is currently in charge of Anderlecht, in what is his first taste of life in management.

The Manchester City legend was appointed by the Belgian giants in the summer of 2020, and guided them to a third-place finish in his first season in charge.
Kompany has since achieved another third-place finish, with his side currently in the play-offs to decide who wins the title.
Burnley job could be Manchester City audition for Vincent Kompany
If Kompany ever wants to take the reins at his beloved Manchester City, then taking the job at Burnley wouldn’t be a bad way to get started.
If he succeeds at Turf Moor, then it could prove to be the ideal audition for Pep Guardiola’s job, when the Spaniard eventually departs Manchester.

Of course, the Clarets and the Citizens adopt wildly different playing styles, so Kompany would have to transform the entire culture at Burnley if he is to get them playing free-flowing football like they do at Manchester City.
However, as Patrick Vieira has done at Crystal Palace this season, it is possible to turn a workmanlike, defensive side into a possession-based outfit with the right recruitment.
Keep an eye on this situation, as it would be very interesting to see how Kompany fares at Burnley if he is chosen to replace Dyche.
