Report: £33m player tells his club he wants to join Newcastle now, PIF want deal done before weekend
Newcastle United have had a difficult couple of days regarding transfers.
While the Magpies have signed Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood this month, they’re yet to land a third signing.
And it’s not like Newcastle haven’t tried – but they’ve been unlucky so far.
However, the Magpies’ luck could now be changing.
Wednesday saw several reports come out linking Newcastle with Bruno Guimaraes.
Sky Sports claimed Newcastle have agreed a fee with Lyon in the region of £30m to sign the midfielder.
It is understood the Brazil international will undergo a medical in his homeland on Wednesday.
However, Lyon subsequently released a statement denying an agreement has been reached.
Sky Sports also noted how it is not the first time Lyon have issued such a denial over a transfer.
In 2019, the club denied they had agreed to sell Ferland Mendy to Real Madrid.
Eight days later, the left-back completed a move to the Bernabeu.
Newcastle hope to seal Guimaraes deal as soon as possible?
On Wednesday evening, 90Min also published a report linking Newcastle with Guimaraes.
Unlike the Sky Sports one, this one suggested the two clubs were still in talks.
However, 90Min reported that Guimaraes has made it clear to Lyon that he wants to join Newcastle this month.
It is believed that a €40m (around £33m) fee would be required to bring the player to St. James’ Park.
However, one of the purported main issues at the moment is the make-up of the deal.
Namely bonuses, payment schedules and other money due to third parties, such as the 20 percent sell-on fee for Paranaense.
90Min also reports that Newcastle will not allow the deal to drag on deep into the weekend as they want the transfer finalised as soon as possible.
The Magpies have reportedly made it clear to the French giants they will walk away from the deal if a satisfactory conclusion is not reached in the very near future.
