Report: 30-year-old Tottenham target now set for crunch talks with his manager before the window opens
World Cup winner Emi Martinez is set for talks with Aston Villa manager Unai Emery before the January transfer window opens.
90Min report that the likes of Juventus, Chelsea and Manchester United have shown an interest in the man who joined Villa from Arsenal in 2020.
Tottenham have also been linked with the World Cup hero as they gear up to replace Martinez’s opposite number from Sunday’s final, Hugo Lloris.
The report says that Martinez and Villa are both aware of the increased profile and interest Martinez has had since the World Cup began.
Martinez set for talks with Villa
Villa and Emery want to see what the future holds for Martinez, finding out whether his World Cup win means he wants to explore a new challenge.
The piece carries quotes from his agent saying his player is ambitious and that he is aiming to play in the Champions League now.
Villa are moving in the right direction under Emery but they will not be at that level for a fair while even if everything goes swimmingly under the Spaniard.
At the age of 30, Martinez will perhaps not be in the mood to wait around although he did recently underline his commitment to Villa.
He told the Athletic that he had a groin injury before Villa’s last game ahead of the World Cup against Brighton, but played through it anyway.
Martinez said: “People were saying to me, ‘Don’t play’, because I have the World Cup.
“I was thinking, ‘What is the best thing for my career?’. But I love this club, man. I’m all in.
“I showed against Brighton that I am all in.”
