Report: 28-year-old is seriously excited about Tottenham under Conte, could sign a new contract now
Harry Kane is excited about Tottenham’s direction of travel under Antonio Conte and could sign new contract at the club.
Football.London claim that Kane, who was of course at the centre of a protracted transfer saga with Manchester City last summer, is now fully focused on Spurs.
Conte’s arrival has reinvigorated the club and got Spurs back into the Champions League, which is the competition that a player of Kane’s quality should be operating in every season.
City have signed Erling Haaland, so there are no obvious destinations in England which would offer an improvement on what he has at Spurs now.
Kane could sign new contract
Their report reads: “One man excited about the direction Spurs are heading in is striker Harry Kane.
“Various people within the England captain’s camp have told football.london that the 28-year-old believes that with Conte being backed with this increase in funds his dream of winning a major trophy with Tottenham can be realised.
“The forward considered his future last summer as he is understood to have been worried the club was lacking in ambition but he has been wowed by Conte since his arrival in November and is impressed by the plans for next season under the Italian and Kane currently is solely focused on playing and winning things for Spurs next season.
“While talks have not taken place over a new contract for Kane, the striker wants to break Jimmy Greaves’ goalscoring record at the club and win trophies with Tottenham.
He has two years left on his current deal at Spurs and if the club continues to show the ambition he and Conte crave then he is understood to be open to extending his stay beyond that.”
It would be sensational news for Tottenham if they could convince Kane to commit to the club in what would probably be his last big contract, given he is 28 now.
If he lets his deal dwindle into its final year, he could look for a move at a reduced price next summer, so perhaps he will be in no rush to sign.
Glory and personal performance at the World Cup could drive up his value even more or earn admiring glances from across Europe.
This is certainly a turnaround from a year ago, and Spurs fans should be excited about how good Kane will be with more time to learn Antonio Conte’s methods.
