Report: 27-year-old set to join Moussa Dembele at Lyon, despite Celtic bid

Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that Juventus defender Mattia De Sciglio is set to join French side Lyon alongside Moussa Dembele on loan this summer – just days after Celtic had a move rejected for the Italian.

De Sciglio, 27, is set to leave Juventus this summer after falling down the pecking order under Andrea Pirlo. Juve boast Juan Cuadrado and Danilo at right-back, while Alex Sandro remains first choice on the left side of the defence.

Di Marzio claimed towards the end of last week that Celtic tabled a season-long loan offer to sign 39-time Italy international De Sciglio this summer, only for the player himself to decide against a move to the Scottish champions.

Now, an update on De Sciglio’s future on deadline day. Di Marzio has claimed in his latest report that the former AC Milan defender is set to move on loan but not to Celtic – instead he will link up with ex-Celtic ace Dembele at Lyon.

TBR’s view – De Sciglio would have a top signing

But far too ambitious for Celtic, unfortunately. While they have qualified for Europa League football, Celtic’s presence in the Scottish Premiership is simply not enough – especially with the player looking to prove he should be in Italy’s Euro 2021 squad.

A move to Lyon will improve De Sciglio’s chances of Euro 2021 football, given that he will be playing against better sides week in, week out. Celtic, meanwhile, are expected to complete the loan signing of Diego Laxalt from AC Milan.
