Report: 26-year-old close to being Liverpool's second summer signing, as negotiations advance
Porto midfielder Otavio could be close to joining Liverpool now, after strong negotiations from Jurgen Klopp’s side, A Bola claim.
Liverpool have apparently been in discussions with Porto recently over signing the central midfielder, who Klopp has specifically asked for.
And it is claimed that his departure from Porto could now take place ‘imminently’, after a ‘strong’ approach from the Reds.
They say that Liverpool want to speed up the process of his departure, to save themselves money.
Otavio’s release clause currently stands at £35 million, but it will rise to over £50 million in the coming weeks, meaning speed is of the essence for the Reds.
If Liverpool were to land Otavio it appears he would be snapped up as a natural replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum.
Otavio actually possesses slightly more flair and finesse than the Dutchman, but he is a very well rounded midfielder.
The 26-year-old is fresh off an excellent campaign, where he scored three goals and claimed eight assists in the league.
If he could offer those sort of creative numbers to Liverpool then his arrival would surely be welcomed with open arms.
But he would still be a risky signing for Klopp’s side, given that he has no prior experience of Premier League football under his belt.
If Otavio does sign soon he would become Liverpool’s second summer signing, following the arrival of Ibrahima Konate.
