Leeds United youngster Alfie McCalmont could now leave Elland Road today, with the Daily Mail reporting that he’s likely to head out on loan.

Jesse Marsch has been busy reshaping his squad this summer and has brought in a host of young, exciting players.

The American boss has shown he is not afraid to give younger players a chance during his short period at Leeds.

But it looks like McCalmont may not be given an opportunity in the White’s first-team this season.

The 22-year-old is now very likely to be loaned out before tonight’s deadline, according to the Daily Mail.

McCalmont could leave on loan today

McCalmont spent last season on loan at League One outfit Morecambe and impressed during his spell there.

The Leeds youngster made 26 appearances in the league, managing to score and assist once.

At just 22, McCalmont is a Northern Ireland international and has earned high praise from his national team boss in the past.

Ian Baraclough once said that McCalmont ‘makes the game look very easy’ after he made his first start for his country last year.

Baraclough isn’t alone in praising the youngster too, as Northern Ireland teammate Shane Ferguson once labelled him ‘brilliant’.

But McCalmont has struggled to break into the Leeds side over the past two seasons and has been loaned out to Oldham Athletic, as well as Morecambe.

The midfielder was handed his Leeds debut by former boss Marcelo Bielsa back in 2019 in the League Cup.

However, he has only made one more appearance in the same competition for Leeds since.

It seems for the best that McCalmont heads back out on loan once again and continues his development.

The player has shown good potential while playing for his country and could look to stake a claim for a place in Marsch’s side next season.
