Report: 22-year-old has 'packed his bags' and is on his way to Celtic
Portuguese outlet A Bola say Benfica attacker Filipe Jota has ‘packed his bags’ and is on his way to Celtic, ahead of a reported loan-to-buy deal.
Jota, 22, has been in and out of the Benfica side during his early career. Clocking up 34 senior appearances, he has had a hand in five goals.
The Portugal Under-21 star can play anywhere in attack – either flank or up front, or as a no.10. He scored twice on loan at Real Valladolid in 20-21.
Celtic have already brought in numerous options this summer. Joe Hart, Liel Abada and Kyogo Furuhashi look as if they are excellent signings.
Josip Juranovic and James McCarthy are yet to get going with limited game time, while Carl Starfelt has already made numerous big errors.
Jota to Celtic: A real coup for Postecoglou, as he ‘packs his bags’
Other reports claim that Celtic have agreed a loan-to-buy deal with a clause inserted worth £6.5million. That is according to a report from Glasgow Live.
It is a real coup. For Celtic to lure one of Benfica’s up-and-coming talents away from the club initially on loan, but with a permanent clause is superb.
At £6.5million, it is a relatively small fee, too. Given he already has more than 30 senior outings for Benfica, he is clearly a player regarded highly.
Versatile too, Jota has shown that he can also adapt to different countries – having done well in the top tier of Spanish football last season at Valladolid.
Celtic fans should be excited – they are getting a potential gem.
