Report: 22-year-old Arsenal player will travel with first-team squad to Dubai but cannot train fully
There was a time when it looked like the 22-year-old could gatecrash Gareth Southgate’s plans for the tournament in Qatar.
He made his Three Lions debut last season but this term, injuries have got in the way and he needed groin surgery in September.
And the Evening Standard report that while Bukako Saka and his international teammates are trying to bring glory home, Smith Rowe will be with the Gunners in Dubai.
Smith Rowe to step up recovery in Dubai
The report says Smith Rowe hopes to be fit to play by the start of the new year and Arsenal’s warm-weather training and friendlies during the World Cup are an important step towards that.
He will be in the travelling party and while he cannot take part in full training from the off, he is hoping he will be able to by the end.
We will wait and see how much of a part Smith Rowe plays in Dubai, but his return would be a huge boost for Mikel Arteta.
The report says his rehab is going well and his recovery is on track for him to come back on his desired return date.
Smith Rowe will hope for no more setbacks as he looks to belatedly get his season going after a frustrating first part of the campaign.
He would add depth and quality to Arteta’s squad, as well as freshness having not been involved in the gruelling campaign much thus far.
