Liverpool midfielder Herbie Kane is set to leave Anfield permanently today, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The 21-year-old midfielder has come through the ranks at Liverpool and has earned rave reviews at the academy and on loan at Doncaster and Hull City.

When Kane’s loan at Doncaster finished last summer, plenty of their fans hailed his contributions, one even calling him the best player he’d seen don the red and white hoops.

“He’s been a revelation since he arrived here, especially to say it’s his first ever loan,” former Rovers boss Grant McCann said of Kane in February 2019.

“He’s been outstanding he really has and he’s going to go on and have a top career, he’s a grounded boy that’s so down to earth and just gets on with his game.”

According to the Echo, Liverpool have struck a seven-figure deal with Championship side Barnsley for Kane’s transfer.

The report adds that, while there was interest from other clubs in the second tier, presumably for loan deals, the Tykes were keen to push through a permanent transfer.

TBR View:

Kane is an incredibly talented prospect who has earned rave reviews everywhere he’s been but, like Rhian Brewster, game time at Anfield is unlikely to come by right now.

Not the player’s fault by any means – simply by virtue of Liverpool having built a perfectly balanced world-class first team, complemented by numerous academy graduates of the highest calibre.

If the report is true and he does leave, he’s sure to enjoy a successful career and, given how young and talented he is, there’s plenty of time for him to work his way to the upper echelons of the game.
