Report: 21-year-old Leeds star actually asked for Liam Cooper’s permission to change shirt numbers this season
Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville actually asked Liam Cooper’s permission to change shirt numbers this season, according to the Athletic.
Summerville has been putting in some really promising displays for the Whites this season and was handed his second start of the campaign at Anfield on Saturday night.
The 21-year-old was the man of the moment too as he poked the ball past Alisson Becker in the 89th minute to give Leeds an important three points.
The Dutch winger made the switch to Elland Road back in 2020 but has only recently emerged as an important part of the first-team squad.
And before the season got underway, he actually asked the Leeds captain for permission to wear the number 10 shirt this year.
Summerville asked Cooper’s permission to change shirt numbers
The Athletic reports that Summerville had eyes on the number seven shirt but Brenden Aaronson picked it up after his switch from RB Salzburg over the summer.
Summerville’s current number was up for grabs and he took the opportunity, but not before asking Cooper for his blessing.
The outlet claims Summerville spoke to other players in the Leeds squad and asked Cooper for his opinion before taking the number ten.
The youngster questioned his captain about whether he thought it could be a mistake and if he was against the idea.
But Cooper gave the Dutchman the go ahead and the club actually thought the number 10 matched up to his potential anyway.
Summerville has had to bide his time at Elland Road and has been on the fringes of the first-team squad since his arrival. But he now seems to be making progress and staking his claim for a place in the side.
It’s great to hear that the youngster asked for his captain’s approval before taking the number 10 shirt.
The Holland U21 international seems to be thriving this season and his recent displays indicate that he could have a bright future ahead of him at Elland Road.
