Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino is available to play in tonight’s Champions League game despite missing training yesterday evening, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The Reds will be hoping to make it four wins from four in Group D as Anfield plays host to Atalanta, who were beaten 5-0 by Jurgen Klopp’s side in the reverse fixture.
The Liverpool Echo provided a fitness update ahead of the game, with Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara “almost certain” not to feature after missing training.
Firmino was reportedly absent from the Tuesday evening session, but the outlet claims this was not related to any potential injury, and the player is in line to feature against Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.
Should Liverpool beat the Serie A club on Wednesday and Ajax fail to win against Denmark’s Midtjylland in Amsterdam, Liverpool will qualify for the Champions League last 16.
Good to hear that Firmino is apparently fine to play tonight, with Liverpool so close to edging over the line in terms of qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition.
The £180,000-a-week ace hasn’t been at his best for much of the season so far but he followed up his goal for Brazil against Venezuela in the last international break with one against Leicester at the weekend.
Firmino looks to be regaining form and hopefully, if he plays tonight, he can play a big role in once again defeating Atalanta and getting Liverpool over the line.
