Fotospor claim that Newcastle defender Jamal Lewis has emerged as a target for Trabzonspor ahead of the January window, and an exit is likely.

Northern Ireland international Lewis, 23, has managed just 96 minutes of football across two appearances this season. Matt Ritchie is preferred.

Last season, Lewis got 26 appearances following his £15million (Sky) move from Norwich. He was seen as the man to finally solve the left-back spot.

But he has been unable to do that, and now, the report claims a move could go through. That is because of the new owners, with spending expected.

Some Newcastle players might survive, the likes of Jamaal Lascelles, Allan Saint-Maximin, Callum Wilson, Martin Dubravka and more.

But for fringe players such as Lewis, he might have to find himself a new home. Right now, Trabzonspor are willing to offer Lewis an escape route.

Lewis to Trabzonspor: Loan for Newcastle man not the worst idea

Currently top of the Turkish SuperLig, Trabzonspor look good money to win the SuperLig title. They are already four points clear, without defeat.

There is some serious talent currently in their squad. Ex-Arsenal and Roma winger Gervinho, along with Napoli icon Marek Hamsik.

They need a left-sided defender and Lewis has emerged as a strong contender to fill the void. But some convincing will need to take place.

Lewis swapped East Anglia for Tyneside in 2020 – now, he will be asked to leave England altogether. But it might just be ideal for him.
