Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette has emerged as a transfer target for Atletico Madrid, as reported by Le10 Sport.
The Spanish giants will be losing Antoine Griezmann this summer, after the forward informed them of his desire to leave after five years – which was announced by the club on social media.
He has been tipped to sign for Barcelona, meaning Atleti will have some work to do in order to replace a player of such quality.
The Mail claim that Frenchman Griezmann’s fellow countryman Lacazette could be a possible replacement, and that ‘initial contact’ has already been made.
Lacazette – who earns £140,000-a-week according to Total Sportek – has been with Arsenal since the summer of 2017 following a £46.5 million (rising to £52.6 million, via BBC Sport), and is very much a fans’ favourite at the Emirates Stadium.
Griezmann’s announcement was always going to have consequences for other teams and it could be that Arsenal now have a battle on their hands.
Sky Sports report that Barca will trigger the World Cup winner’s £108 million release clause, which will give them huge spending power.
Atleti are also an established Champions League club and Lacazette has previously made no secret of the fact he wants to play in the competition.
That all said though, the former Lyon man is adored in north London and is an integral part of Unai Emery’s team.
