Report: £12m player is now right on the verge of leaving Arsenal, bid has been submitted for him
Arsenal defender Pablo Mari has been linked with a move to Serie A over the last few days and could now be on the verge of leaving, with Di Marzio reporting that Monza have submitted a bid for him.
Mari joined the Gunners from Brazilian side Flamengo back in the 2020 January window on an initial loan deal with an option to buy. Arteta’s men ended up paying a total fee of £12 million for the defender (Sky Sports).
But he has played limited minutes during his time in North London and spent the second half of last season on loan at Udinese.
Reports suggested yesterday that Mari could be set to leave Arsenal within the next 48 hours and now it seems Monza are stepping up their efforts to land the Spaniard.
Bid submitted for Mari
The Italian club have proposed a loan deal with an obligation to buy the Gunners defender.
They are now just waiting for Arsenal to accept their offer and then the transfer will be going ahead, according to the latest update.
Earlier this week, reports claimed that two Italian clubs were monitoring Mari, with both Monza and Verona looking to sign the centre-back
And Monza are now waiting for a response from Arsenal and seem to have overtaken their Serie A rivals Verona in the race to sign him.
Mari has fallen even further down the pecking order at Arsenal
The 28-year-old looks set to leave the Gunners this summer, especially after William Saliba has returned to the club from Marseille.
Saliba has looked excellent during pre-season and Arteta now has a wealth of options in the centre-back role.
Mari has been mainly used as a back-up option for Arteta and as boss has bolstered his defence further this summer, Mari could be the one to head out the door.
The former Flamengo man only managed to get on the pitch three times before he was sent out on loan last season and it seems he has now fallen even further down the pecking order at Arsenal.
