Report: £11m Tottenham man to make decision on his future this week

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama is to make an announcement on his Spurs future over the next few days, the player’s brother is quoted by People Daily as saying.

The Kenya captain has barely got a look-in at Spurs this season, with four appearances in all competitions totalling 122 minutes and just one start, in the EFL Cup (Transfermarkt).

Under Mauricio Pochettino, Wanyama made two substitute appearances in the Premier League, in the 2-1 loss to Leicester and in the subsequent 2-1 win over Southampton, as well as the full 90 minutes in the loss to Colchester in the cup.

Under Jose Mourinho, meanwhile, the midfielder has featured just once, in the 3-1 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, and it doesn’t seem as if he’s in line for a high amount of game time any time soon.

Harry Wanyama has now claimed that his brother’s decision to leave or stay at Spurs will be reached in the next two or three days, as reported by the Kenyan outlet.

“Victor’s agent Ivan Modia will announce whether he will be leaving Spurs or not and which club. He is set to make the announcement in two or three days,” Harry is quoted by People Daily as saying.

The 28-year-old has plied his trade in Britain since the summer of 2011, when he moved to Celtic from Belgian side Beerschot, and two years later moved south of the border to Southampton before joining Tottenham in 2016.

Asked about the prospect of rejoining Celtic, Harry said his brother’s options were open and maintained the decision to leave or stay at Spurs will be reached soon.

TBR View:

Wanyama has not played a single minute of football for Spurs in 2020, and with a meagre 122 minutes and one start under his belt so far this season, it would be very surprising indeed if he sought to stay at the North London club.

For all of Tottenham’s issues at the back and up front, they have plenty of options in midfield, and Wanyama is behind no fewer than seven players in the pecking order – Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Giovani Lo Celso, Harry Winks, Tanguy Ndombele, Gedson Fernandes and Moussa Sissoko.

Add in the fact Wanyama’s contract expires at the end of next season and the likelihood of his lack of club game time potentially having a knock-on effect on his chances of remaining a fixture in the Kenya squad, and it would appear that a decision to up sticks at the end of this season is very likely for the £11million signing.
