Liverpool full-back Neco Williams is now set to stay at Anfield in what looks like a u-turn from the club, the Athletic say.

Reversal in fortune

Williams had been linked with an exit from Liverpool throughout the summer, with multiple reports suggesting that he was set to be sold.

The Liverpool Echo said that the Reds were looking to land £10 million for the youngster.

However, Williams has impressed over pre-season in the minutes that he has been given.

And it seems that the Reds have now been convinced to keep the Welsh international around.

First-team chances?

Williams is most comfortable in the right-back position, but he is capable of covering on either side – and Andy Robertson’s latest injury may have played some part in that decision.

There were said to be a clutch of teams chasing Williams, so they may be disappointed at Liverpool’s latest stance.

But it will now be interesting to see just how much first-team football Williams is granted if he does stick around.

Jurgen Klopp’s side kick their Premier League campaign off with a contest against Norwich City, where Williams looks most likely to start on the bench.
