Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac is not entirely happy in England and is being sought after by his former club, according to a report in Sky Germany.

German side Schalke is said to be putting together a package to re-sign the 27-year-old on loan, three years after he made the switch to the Emirates Stadium.

The report claims that the offer from Schalke would see Kolasinac return for a year and have half of his wages covered by the club, with initial discussions said to have taken place.

Kolasinac, on £100,000-a-week according to Spotrac, is himself reported to be “not entirely happy on the island” and willing to return to Germany for private reasons.

Likewise, Arsenal are apparently keen to do a deal, given Mikel Arteta’s need to trim the inflated wage bill at the North London club, added the report.

With Arteta said to be eyeing a squad overhaul this summer, he’ll need to make some tough decisions over his current personnel, particularly given reduced budgets in wake of the global health crisis.

Kolasinac has been in and out of the Arsenal squad and, while he has put in some good displays, there have also been some indifferent performances and errors – such as the one against Tottenham – which led to some criticism.

With Arsenal having several good options on the defensive flanks, like Kieran Tierney, Hector Bellerin and Cedric Soares, and Kolasinac reportedly keen on returning to Germany, it looks as though this deal could work out for all parties.
