Replacing Joselu this January would be perfect business by Newcastle

Cash-strapped Newcastle United have had a frustrating January transfer window. Rafa Benitez wants funds for new players but the club continue to refuse to invest under Mike Ashley’s ownership.

As a result, Newcastle are constantly looking for bargains or loans, which is not ideal when trying to build a squad good enough to stay up.

The only chance of bringing in a new face on a permanent deal is if Newcastle manage to sell one of their current players.

And if recent media reports in Italy are to be believed, Newcastle might just have found a perfect way to fund a move for a new striker

The Spanish striker has been a flop at St James’ Park and replacing him with an upgrade this month would be ideal January business by Newcastle.

The 28-year-old has only managed seven goals since his summer 2016 move from Stoke City and he has been widely criticised by Newcastle fans.

Joselu often finds himself in good positions but his finishing has been below-par, with his recent goal against Blackburn Rovers breaking a drought which dated back to August.

The ex-Real Madrid striker is clearly not good enough for Newcastle’s survival bid and Benitez should jump at the chance to sell him to China.

Using that money, he could bring in a replacement; someone who has the potential to score the goals to keep Newcastle up.
