18A number of Glasgow Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to discuss speculation linking Joey Veerman with a move to Ibrox.

Dutch outlet Voetbal International claims that the 22-year-old is ready to make the step up and Steven Gerrard’s Gers are following him closely.

Rangers aren’t the only club linked with Veerman though – France’s Reims and Italy’s Atalanta are also said to be interested, along with Dutch giants Feyenoord and PSV.

According to the Scottish Sun, meanwhile, Southampton are another club to have expressed an interest in Veerman, who would reportedly cost upwards of £5million.

Veerman has registered nine goals and 10 assists in 32 games in all competitions for Heerenveen, with seven goals and nine assists coming in the Eredivisie.

The Daily Record believes he would bring “loads” to Rangers and adds that he is “getting better with each passing week”.

“His record of eight goals and nine assists would lead you to believe he plays higher up the pitch but he often picks the ball up deep and sprays it about to his team-mates,” they wrote.

“But he’s not content with that as he’s often in the mix in the final third as he looks to get on the end of things and create in and around the box.”
