Report: Leeds United to battle Norwich City for Renaud Emond

Leeds United are set to fight it out with Premier League side Norwich to sign Standard Liege striker Renaud Emond.

The Sun have linked the duo with a move for the 28-year-old who has scored seven goals in 18 games during 2019/20.

Emond is currently the captain of the Belgian outfit but could leave during January if a bid of around £3 million is made.

Leeds could see Eddie Nketiah return to Arsenal during January. The striker has hardly played for the Whites and that could prompt the Premier League outfit to take him back.

If that was to be the case, Leeds would be left with Patrick Bamford as the only senior striker in their ranks.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men are currently second in the league. They will hope to go one better than last season when they were dumped out of the play-offs by Derby County.

Norwich will try and pursue Emond as they try and avoid an instant return to the Championship.

TBR Verdict – Emond is a risk worth taking for Leeds

The Whites will be desperate to get over the line after the disappointment of last season and Emond could enhance those chances.

At £3 million, the Belgian striker doesn’t really represent a major risk and he would likely act as a backup for Bamford anyway.

Seven goals in 18 games isn’t a bad ratio and he could provide Leeds with enough quality to get them over the line and into the Premier League.

The January window is a tough one for buying clubs and the European market certainly looks like a decent strategy for Leeds.
