Renato Sanches' Euros display should have Arsenal and Spurs fans excited - TBR View

There were a number of players on display this summer who Arsenal and Spurs will have taken a keen interest in.

Both north London clubs are looking at new faces this summer, and both are desperate to make a fist of getting into the top four next season.

Among all the names being mentioned is a certain Renato Sanches. The Portugal midfielder, like so many this summer, emerged as a star in the Euros, with a series of fine displays.

Sanches has been linked with both Spurs and Arsenal. Indeed, reports just today suggested that he is now on the list that Fabio Paratici is drawing up.

And judging by his Euros performances in the middle of the park, Spurs and Arsenal fans can have every reason to be excited.

Retention

In the four games Sanches played for Portugal this summer, he was easy on the eye, good with the ball, and someone who caught attention.

A different player from the one English fans saw at Swansea City a few seasons back, the Lille midfielder looked the part. And the stats suggest he’s more than capable with the ball as well.

Sanches attempted 193 passes in the tournament. Of those, he completed 178, which gives him a healthy 91% accuracy.

For an easy comparison, England and Chelsea star Mason Mount was down at 85% from his 178 attempts. And given he is lauded as one of the Three Lions’ better midfield players, Sanches’ stat-line there is impressive. Indeed, Declan Rice, who often does play the simple pass, was at 91% too.

Given Sanches’ ability to carry the ball into attacking areas, as well as dropping deep, it makes it all the more impressive.

Arsenal and Spurs need a midfielder this summer. They need someone to dominate the ball and look after it. Sanches, then, seems to be right up the street of both clubs based on his Euro 2020 exploits.
