‘Reminds me of Santi’: Arsenal fans impressed by Marco Verratti last night

Arsenal fans will be looking forward to this season ending, on a domestic level anyway, following a miserable and inconsistent campaign in the Premier League.

The Gunners do have a Europa League semi-final to look forward to tonight. Mikel Arteta, seemingly a master in the cup competitions, will be desperate to win some silverware and bide himself even more time amid growing pressures.

As a club, Arsenal are in a bit of turmoil. Growing unrest off the field has the Kroenke’s under pressure. Further, Spotify owner, Daniel Ek, has now declared his interest in buying the club. It’s all leading to things being unsteady in the boardroom heading into the summer. That, of course, will do Arteta and his chief transfer guru, Edu, no favours.

Nonetheless, it hasn’t stopped a number of names being linked with moves to Arsenal already. A number of players are said to have been identified by Edu, while the Brazilian also intends to raise considerable funds by selling numerous fringe players. The likes of Eddie Nketiah, Lucas Torreira, and Ainsley Maitland-Niles could all depart.

Last summer, Arsenal did make some decent moves in the market. In defence, they signed Gabriel Magalhaes. In midfield, Thomas Partey arrived for big money late in the window, while Willian came in on a free and Dani Ceballos came back for a second spell.

But there is a feeling among many Gunners that the squad and first XI lacks real quality and depth. And some Arsenal fans watching the Champions League last night feel like PSG midfield, Marco Verratti, could be the ideal signing.

Marco Verratti impresses for PSG despite City loss

Now, there is probably no way that Arsenal are able to land Verratti in a realistic world. The Italian, 28, is a regular for PSG and has become a key component under Mauricio Pochettino since he took over. But that doesn’t mean fans can’t pick out players who they’d like.

Verratti, with his combative yet composed style, is certainly someone you could picture in the Arsenal midfield. He’d bring the fight needed alongside Partey. But at the same time, he has the quality with the ball, experience at the top level, and all-round winning mentality that clubs like Arsenal so desperately need.

The Italian midfielder caught the eye last night against Manchester City. He was particularly good in the opening 45 minutes, where PSG had the better of Pep Guardiola’s men in Paris.

Arsenal fans were taking note of Verratti on Twitter, with a number of them discussing just how good a signing he could be. Based on his performance last night, plus his general play throughout the season, it certainly does appear Verratti would be a superb addition for any club, never mind just Arsenal.

But last night it was Gunners fans discussing Verratti. Here, then, is a look at what some Arsenal supporters had to say about Marco Verratti.
