'Reminds me of David Silva': Some Manchester City fans think they've unearthed a real diamond
Manchester City fans have taken to Twitter to praise Cole Palmer for his display in Tuesday night’s pre-season friendly.
Pep Guardiola’s charges ran out 2-0 winners over Preston, with Riyad Mahrez and Samuel Edozie getting the goals.
Mahrez opened the scoring for the Citizens with a superb free-kick in the 25th minute.
Meanwhile, half-time substitute Edozie fired in a close-range finish on 64 minutes following an inviting James McAtee assist.
Palmer did superbly to win the free kick for Mahrez to break the deadlock, although he did blaze over from close range late in the first half.
Nonetheless, the 19-year-old carried the ball well throughout his time on the pitch and showed great technique from the off.
And plenty of Manchester City fans seem excited about what the future has in store for Palmer, “aka Zidane”:

Brilliant free kick from the Algeria star, bending and dipping it over the wall. Plaudits for Palmer, too, who won the free kick after holding the ball under intense pressure. #MCFC— Stuart Brennan (@StuBrennanMEN) July 27, 2021

In Cole Palmer, Manchester City have a star in the making
Palmer has been part of City’s academy setup for over a decade and signed a contract extension in June that ties him to the club until 2026.
The young playmaker made his first team debut last September in the League Cup win away at Burnley.
He followed that by making his Champions League bow as a substitute in the 3-0 group stage win at Marseille.
Palmer has also featured on the bench in a number of Premier League fixtures.
In terms of age-group football, Palmer enjoyed a superb 2020-21 campaign and was a key component of City’s Elite Development Squad which lifted the Premier League 2 title for the first time.
He also scored the winner in last November’s 2020 3-2 FA Youth Cup final triumph over Chelsea.
