'Remarkable' Arsenal target scores and earns MOTM in 3-0 international away win
Arsenal target Marcel Sabitzer has offered a reminder of his quality during the post-season international break as his Austria side beat Croatia.
In April, it was reported that the Gunners were interested in bringing the ‘remarkable’ Bayern Munich midfielder to north London this summer.
He wore the captain’s armband against Croatia in the first round of Nations League matches, in Ralf Rangnick’s first game in charge after leaving Manchester United.
The midfielder scored and won the man of the match award from WhoScored, as Rangnick scooped an eye-catching maiden win.
Sabitzer shines for Austria against Croatia
Sabitzer has apparently been told he can leave Bayern and perhaps he took heart from being back in his international camp.
He is a key player for Austria and they are embarking on a new era under Rangnick having missed out on the 2022 World Cup.
Croatia are not the force they once were but their midfield last night did contain Mateo Kovavic and Marcelo Brozovic.
Both of them are quality, seasoned operators and Sabitzer won the midfield battle to be the standout player on the pitch.
He had more shots and laid on more key passes than any player in his side en route to an impressive victory.
Tottenham were linked with Sabitzer around a year ago, before he ended up joining Bayern from their domestic rivals RB Leipzig.
That decision has clearly not worked out as planned if Bayern are talking about letting him go within just one season.
But he could be headed for north London a year later, and performances like last night’s could catch Arsenal’s eye even more.
