It has widely been felt that Mikel Arteta would need to offload some Arsenal players in order to recruit a new signing this month.

The likes of Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith Rowe have often been touted as potential candidates to leave.

However, it’s become clear that Arteta is very keen to keep both of the Hale End graduates at Arsenal this month.

Moreover, Spaniard does actually have big plans for Smith Rowe in the near future.

That being said, there are a few players that would make less of an impact if they left the club in January.

And although he’s a bit of a forgotten face around the Emirates right now, Nuno Tavares still has a lot of sell-on potential.

The Portuguese defender isn’t enjoying the most productive loan spell at Nottingham Forest, and the club are considering an early return this month.

And quite pertinently, journalist Santi Aouna has now confirmed that Tavares’ former loan club Marseille would be interested in signing the defender this month.

Mikel Arteta could have added funds at Arsenal if Nuno Tavares leaves this month

Sharing his update on X, Aouna was rounding up some potential deals in Ligue 1 right now.

And the journalist finished his update saying that Marseille are still actively considering a bid for Tavares in January.

Focusing on the Arsenal update, Aouna said: “BUT the Truffert and Nuno Tavares tracks still remain active on the OM side.”

Of course, it seems like there would be a few moving parts for Tavares to return to Arsenal and then head back to Marseille or loan or perhaps permanently.

Arsenal previously had an asking price of £22m for Tavares, a fee that Arteta’s side may struggle to recoup this month.

However, any funds could be crucial in allowing Arsenal some wiggle room to sign some defensive cover in January.

That being said, Jurrien Timber has now been in contact with one player the club are said to be interested in.

It seems as if things could now heat up for Arsenal with just over a week to go in January.

And former player Kieran Gibbs has now stated the one player Arsenal need to sign.
