In the summer of 2012, it appeared that Liverpool had a new striking sensation on their hands. From the academy that had produced Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler came Adam Morgan.

The front-man was thrust into the spotlight by Brendan Rodgers, who regularly used him in Liverpool’s Europa League campaign.

Because of his lethal left-foot and accuracy, he was being compared to Liverpool legend Fowler by many. He even got the seal of approval from ‘God’ himself.

But where is Morgan now?

Unfortunately, Morgan never quite matched the early predictions for his career. He is currently a free agent having been released by Irish league side Sligo Rovers last month.

Morgan left Liverpool in the January of 2014, with the early part of 2012-13 at Liverpool now forgotten.

“He’s a young lad, he’s got a lot to learn about his play outside the box but that will come. As a finisher he is probably one of the best I’ve seen for a long, long time to be honest.”

He moved to Yeovil, then in the Championship, but his career has been something of a struggle.

Spells at St Johnstone and Accrington Stanley preceded a fall into non-league. Hemel Hempstead, Colwyn Bay, Curzon Ashton and FC Halifax were all places he frequented in that time.

The highlight of this time was a hat-trick v AFC Wimbledon whilst at Curzon which helped him win a move to Halifax.

But he now finds himself a free agent again. His time in Ireland got off to a bang, with four goals in his first six games. However, an abdominal injury saw his playing time diminish and Sligo decided to let him go.

Morgan remains just 24-years-old so there is still hope he can find his way back into the Football League. Whilst Liverpool fans will wish him all the best for the future, he has not quite lived up to the billing as the ‘next Robbie Fowler.’
