There are few examples in recent history of transfers between the two Old Firm sides, but a recently-released Rangers midfielder might be about to change that.
Liam Burt’s contract at Ibrox is set to expire at the end of the month and he is yet to be offered a new deal with the club. Indeed, the 20-year-old has just nine days to run on his current terms.
A Scotland Under-21 international, Burt has enjoyed successful loan spells at Dumbarton and Alloa as well as clocking up three appearances for the senior side at Rangers. He even played in the top tier against Hearts.
But Burt has now hinted that he could be about to swap Rangers for Old Firm enemies Celtic with a post on his Instagram story, which shows him driving into Celtic’s training ground Lennoxtown.
If Burt is about to sign for Celtic, Rangers fans will have every right to feel aggrieved by the midfielder’s move.
The majority are of the belief that if you are a Celtic player, you can rule out playing for Rangers throughout your entire career – and vice versa. But even if he does sign, a move to Celtic may backfire for Burt.
Celtic have plenty of options in both central midfield and in the number 10 role, where Burt prefers to play. The signing of David Turnbull from Motherwell is only going to make Burt’s chances of a senior role, even harder.
The ex Rangers under 20s player looks to be on his way to Celtic.
The out of contract midfielder posted a Instagram story this morning heading upto Lennoxtown.
