Everton midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson is supposedly the most in-form player in the Premier League at the moment.
That’s according to Sky Sports (via the Daily Star), who have placed the Iceland international at the top of their ‘power rankings’ chart.
Sigurdsson is top of the pile on 10,742 points, which is more than Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette (second with 9637) and Chelsea talisman Eden Hazard (third with 9598).
The chart takes into account the last five Premier League matches.
The rankings are formed by using statistics such as goals, assists, touches, tackles, blocks, passes and big chances missed.
Sigurdsson’s last five games have yielded four goals and one assist, and the playmaker appears to be back to his best after a disappointing campaign last term.
The former Swansea City and Tottenham Hotspur ace seems to be benefitting from playing in behind the central striker, as opposed to operating out wide.
Can Sigurdsson become Everton’s most influential player?
It’s not a question of ability with Sigurdsson – clearly he’s a fantastic player.
It’s just whether he can keep consistent going forward.
Arguably he’s the most talented player Everton have and has the capability of winning games, as evidenced last weekend against Leicester City with his amazing long distance effort.
Sigurdsson needs to maintain these high levels, and there’s a good chance of him doing so.
His position change is helping him massively.
He can affect games much better by playing off of Richarlison or Cenk Tosun, and has an excellent shot on him.
To be even more in-form than the Premier League’s best player Hazard takes some doing, but Sigurdsson is managing it.
He can be Everton’s star man this term, this purple patch is absolutely a reminder of that.
