Reiss Nelson says he wants to sign a new contract at Arsenal

Arsenal star Reiss Nelson has revealed he’s desperate to stay at the Emirates beyond the end of this season.

The 23-year-old Englishman has been a Gunner since he was just eight. He came through the ranks at Hale End and everyone expected him to become a star for Arsenal.

Things haven’t quite gone to plan, but Nelson is not ready to give up yet.

Reiss Nelson says he wants to sign a new contract at Arsenal

Nelson’s future has been up in the air for a while now.

The winger was expected to leave the club before the start of the campaign after a fairly successful loan spell at Feyenoord last season. Fabrizio Romano revealed on CaughtOffside that ‘more than three clubs asked for Nelson on loan in the summer,’ but Arsenal decided to keep him.

The Englishman, branded as a player with ‘electrifying’ pace by Bundesliga’s website, got his first opportunity of the season in the Premier League in October against Nottingham Forest. He came on as a substitute in the first half following an injury to Bukayo Saka, and he stole the show.

Nelson scored twice and picked up an assist in what was a sensational display. He has been doing well since and even scored in Arsenal’s friendly against Milan yesterday.

With just over six months left on his contract, Nelson’s future is in question once again. The Englishman has come out and revealed that he only wants to stay at Arsenal and is really hoping for a new contract.

Asked if he wants to stay, Nelson told Football London: “Of course!

“I’ve been here since I was eight and Arsenal is all I know. I’m only a couple of minutes from the stadium, all my family is there. So of course I’d love to stay.”

Speaking about playing more recently, he said: “Yeah it’s amazing. I’ve said a few times, I’ve been here since I was eight and I’m 23 now so I’ve been here a long time and I’m Arsenal through and through.

“So to be playing, even in games just like this I’m delighted. Of course, injuries are just a minor setback, but of course, I just look towards the future and hopefully, I can play many more years at the club.”

Arsenal could let him go

Nelson deserves a lot of credit for his performances recently, but there’s still a big chance that Arsenal will let him go at the end of this season.

The Gunners are on the market looking for a new winger, with David Ornstein claiming that Shakhtar Donetsk star Mykhaylo Mudryk is Arteta’s priority in the January transfer window.

The Ukrainian will cost the Gunners a lot of money, which means he’ll instantly push Nelson down the pecking order if Edu manages to sign him next month.

That would reduce the need for Nelson, which could then convince Arsenal that there’s no point in offering him a new contract. That would be a real shame.
