Arsenal produced a stunning display to beat Manchester United at Old Trafford with the Gunners midfield seemingly doing the trick against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side – and both Thomas Partey and Reiss Nelson have applauded one Arsenal player.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the only goal of the game and ened a mini-drought of his own in the Premier League with a second-half penalty, after Paul Pogba fouled Hector Bellerin with a clumsy tackle from behind.
Manchester United fielded a diamond system which included four midfielders in Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic, Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba. But Arsenal’s system out-did United, with new signing Partey shining.
The Ghanaian took the plaudits for his excellent performance, as did his midfield partner Mo Elneny. After returning from a loan at Besiktas, Elneny has established himself in the side. Arsenal posted a video of Elneny pressing by himself.
Elneny, 28, is now just two appearances shy of reaching a century in Arsenal colours – after reigniting his north London stay under Mikel Arteta. The £50k-a-week (Spotrac) midfielder has entered the final two years of his current deal, though.
Reacting to Arsenal’s Instagram post, Reiss Nelson declared his love for the ex-Basel midfielder while new signing and midfield partner Partey described Elneny as “the lion”. Ex-Villa ace Gabby Agbonlahor also responded with some clapping emojis.
