Former Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina is all for seeing current Reds number one Alisson break his clean sheet record for a Premier League season.
The Brazilian has had a remarkable first campaign between the sticks at Anfield, having conceded just 15 goals in 29 matches.
The £66.8 million signing from AS Roma (BBC Sport) has proven to be excellent business, and is a big part of why Liverpool are currently challenging for the title.
Alisson has recorded 17 clean sheets in the Premier League so far, and is bearing down on former fan favourite Reina’s record of 20 in one season.
Keeping it short and sweet, Reina reacted on Twitter to the prospect, saying: “Hopefully he will!!!”
Alisson is currently three clean sheets ahead of the next nearest challenger, his compatriot and rival Ederson at Manchester City. And he’s actually not far off Petr Cech’s all-time record of 24 posted in 2004/05.
He really has been an assuring presence at the back following the uncertainty that seemed to ooze from Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet in recent years.
His knack for shutting out the opposition has provided a brilliant basis for the team’s attacking unit to go out and win points this term.
His signing was a world record fee for a goalkeeper at the time, but he’s definitely proven his worth and stealing Reina’s clean sheet record in his first season would be a brilliant achievement.
