Red Star surely stand no chance against Liverpool as Marko Marin is ruled out

Liverpool are expected to beat Red Star Belgrade comfortably tonight, but the job may have just gotten a whole lot easier with the visitors missing their best player.

Marko Marin, who some will vaguely remember from his time at Chelsea, has failed to recover from an injury sustained against Rad Beograd on Saturday.

The diminutive German, who only made six Premier League appearances for the Blues between 2012-2016, has not travelled to Merseyside as reported by the Liverpool Echo.

He joined the Serbian outfit from Olympiakos this summer and has quickly established himself as Red Star’s most dangerous player.

He netted the club’s consolation goal against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League a couple of weeks ago.

A total banker for Liverpool

Liverpool were the overwhelming favourites anyway, but there is surely no way they will drop points now.

Not only are Red Star missing Marin, but Milan Rodic and midfielder Jonathan Cafu are also unavailable.

The Reds were beaten 1-0 last time out by Napoli in what was a very disappointing result in the end, but will surely be bouncing back with three points come 10pm on Wednesday.

It’s shaping up to be a very tight group, so it’ll be important for Liverpool to dispatch Red Star in the next two games and claim six points.

Jurgen Klopp could recall Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino to the starting XI, after the former missed out entirely against Huddersfield Town with a broken hand, and the Brazilian was rested and brought on as a 77th minute substitute.

Fabinho could come into midfield, with Naby Keita and Jordan Henderson both injured.
