According to the Mirror, the Red Devils have spent the last month putting together a £10million bid for teenage West Ham defender Reece Oxford. Although, the report states that the club could miss out on signing the 17-year-old due to the uncertainty surrounding the current managerial position at Old Trafford. It is believed that the player would be reluctant to make the move North under Jose Mourinho, who has shown a reluctance to give less experienced players an opportunity in each of his previous roles.
Oxford shot to first team prominence during the early days of Slaven Bilic’s reign at Upton Park, but he struggled for game time throughout the latter stages of the season. A centre-back by trade, Manchester United would undoubtedly sign the youngster with a view to giving him regular minutes from the off. Daley Blind has been filling in alongside Chris Smalling for the most-part of the season and there is definitely a role for Oxford ahead of the Dutchman should he be given the opportunity to prove himself. He would be an excellent signing for now, and the future.
